GUTAI |
GUTAI was established by young artists in western Japan in 1954.
1950s were times where performance and installation art were still seen as novelty, and not as a respectful work of art.
However, in recent years it has been noiticed internationally and Japanese art between 1950s and 1970s are being actively re-evaluated. From 15th of February 2013, GUTAI exhibition is being held at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
Represented with the word "Don't imitate others" by the leader Jiro YOSHIHARA, artists of GUTAI denied traditional methods, actively creating new artistic expression.
