Kouji ENOKURA

Born 1941 in Tokyo. Artist. 1966, graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts Painting Department with a degree in oil painting. 1968, received a Masters from the same course. Studied under Yamaguchi Kaoru as an undergraduate. 1967, began to present his works. 1971, received an accolade for the work "Wall" at the Paris Youth Biennale, where he piled blocks between two pine trees at la bois de Vincennes and painted over them with mortar like a wall. Series with names like "Indefinite Substance", "Wet Type", "Stain", "Interference", and "Omen" indicate the world where the material and the body react to one another.

Enokura had many representative works including the series where he stained cotton cloth with oil paint; the "Figure" and "Interference" series of mixed media contrasting on monochrome cloth blurred with acrylic; and the oil stained 3D series of concrete walls.

Passed away in 1995.
