Michiko Matsumoto（1950- ）
Photographer. Born 1950 in Shizuoka, Japan. In 1974 B.A.in Japanese literature, Hosei University. Currently based in Tokyo. Started taking photographs in the 1980s with several series of portraits of artists living in various countries and principal dancers of major dance companies such as Yoko Ono, Niki de Saint Phalle and Meret Oppenheim. Her works are in the collections of a number of museums worldwide. Has published 9 books of photography and essays such as "Portraits of New York Women"(1983 Tojusha), "Niki de Saint Phalle"(1986 Parco), and "The Name of Roses" (2009 Media factory). Solo exhibitions : Yoko Ono in New York（1974, 3points, Tokyo）, Niki de Saint Phalle（1981, Space Niki, Tokyo）, Portraits - Women Artists（1988, Soho Photo Gallery, New York U.S.A）, SESSIONS（2004, ZEIT-FOTO SALON, Tokyo） and more.

Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002 )

Born in 1930 in France. Her first paintings appeard in 1950. This led to assemblages in plaster and her "shooting paintings". These pictures were made of plaster with containers of paint beneath the surface which would explode when shot with a pistol. More sculptural assemblages followed, and in 1965 de Saint Phalle created her first "Nana". These large, voluptuous and brightly painted female figures were made originally in papier mache and later in polyester. Has designed stage sets and costumes, created movies, graphic work, chairs and a sculptural playground. A part of her most ambitious work is the Tarot Garden, a sculpture park in Tuscany. The Wheel of Fortune in the water was created by her husband, Jean Tinguely.
